Washington (EFE).- US President Joe Biden announced that he will impose sanctions on people determined to have participated or attempted to participate in actions that threaten the peace, security or stability of Sudan.
Also those who carry out attacks against women, children or any other civilian; obstruct the activities of United Nations missions or carry out attacks against United Nations missions.
“I believe that the situation in Sudan, including the military takeover in October 2021 and the outbreak of fighting in April 2023, constitutes an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States.” Biden stated.
The president added that the policy of the United States is “to support a transition to democracy and a civil transitional government in Sudan” and to defend said interim Executive “from those who would prevent its initial formation through violence and other methods.”
“The United States, in cooperation with like-minded partners, will help such a transitional government, when it is formed, meet the needs of the Sudanese people and prepare for democratic elections,” he added.
From the first moments of this conflict, the Biden statement added, the United States facilitated the departure of thousands of people (Americans and others) by land, sea, and air and has carried out intense negotiations to reduce violence.
“Our diplomatic efforts to urge all parties to end the military conflict and allow unimpeded humanitarian access continue, as do our efforts to assist the remaining Americans, including by providing them with information on exit options,” it states.
As a consequence of these sanctions, all goods and assets that are in the United States and belong to the possible sanctioned persons will be blocked and cannot be transferred, paid for, exported, withdrawn or negotiated.
