“Above the sky of the Republic of Crimea, the anti-aircraft defense forces shot down a drone and a radio-electronic combat device,” wrote Sergei Axiónov, the Crimean president, on his Telegram channel.
Axiónov, who stressed that the attack occurred parallel to the one in Sevastopol, assured that no injuries or damage had been reported.
Guaranteed fuel supply
The fire in Sevastopol, the base of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, affected four tankers, but it is practically put out, Mikhail Razvozhaev, governor of the region, reported on Saturday in a statement reproduced by the official RIA Novosti news agency.
In addition, the governor stressed that the incident will not affect the supply of fuel to the city, annexed by Russia in 2014, like the rest of the peninsula bathed by the Black Sea.
Since the middle of last year, the Russian authorities have denounced numerous Ukrainian attacks against the peninsula, mostly with assault drones, which is why the yellow level of terrorist threat applies in Crimea.
For this reason, both Crimea and the port of Sevastopol have suspended the military parade on May 9, which is celebrated annually on Victory Day over Nazi Germany.
Crimea, one of the targets of the Ukrainian counteroffensive
This week the Federal Security Service said it had aborted a bomb attack against the naval hospital in Simferopol, the peninsular capital.
With a view to the expected Ukrainian counteroffensive, Axiónov ordered the construction of a fortified defensive line between the peninsula and the rest of Ukraine.
In an interview with the Scandinavian media, the President of Ukraine, Volodímir Zelenski, assured that the vacancy of Crimea is one of the objectives of said counteroffensive.
