Córdoba, 29 (Apr).- The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, has asked the European Commission to activate the “crisis reserve” that Spain is already suffering from due to the drought, a request that, he assures , already has the support of countries like France.
In statements to journalists before participating in an electoral walk through the Cruces de Mayo in Córdoba together with the PSOE candidate for Cordoba mayor, Antonio Hurtado, the minister explained that they are experiencing a “clear” situation of climate change with “droughts ” like that of the years 1991-1995 but “these are with high temperatures”.
Planas has affirmed that the Government, through the Drought Table, is in “contact” with the autonomous communities and with the sector and exposes measures such as “a first package of tax reduction”. which supposes “at least the drop in modules by 25 percent”, corresponding to the previous campaign, in addition to “a coverage against drought of 317 million euros”.
A CAP adapted to drought
In addition, the minister has already asked the European Commission “to activate the crisis reserve in relation to the drought in Spain”, since in an extraordinary situation an extraordinary response must be given”, he stated.
“We are already working on it with the European Commission and this week I received the support of my colleague from France and other colleagues to be able to respond to this situation,” said Planas, who has also opted for “the adaptation of the common agricultural policy” to the “new conditions”.
He recalled that “Spain is very diverse” but in a situation of “lower rainfall”, the “Guadalquivir del Guadiana basins and the interior basins of Catalonia are the most affected” and those that generate “the most concern”.
On the other hand, regarding the complaints about the marketing of olive oil with a mixture of other vegetable oils, Planas recalled that the quality standard “prevents” this marketing and that all the autonomous communities and all the actors in the sector to “extreme vigilance”. EFE
