Santa Cruz de La Palma (EFE).- The former Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy has traveled to La Palma to participate in the pre-campaign of the PP for the next municipal and regional elections, participating in acts together with the candidates for mayors of Santa Cruz de La Palma, Asier Antona, and Los Llanos de Aridane, Noelia García.
On the morning of this Saturday, the former president and a delegation of PP officials made up of the candidate for the presidency of the Canary Islands, Manuel Domínguez, as well as the candidate for the Cabildo, Mariano Zapata, and the mayor’s office of Santa Cruz de La Palma, Asier Antona, have walked through the streets of the La Palma capital greeting supporters.
Due to the numerous spontaneous greetings and requests for photos from Mariano Rajoy, the 300-meter itinerary along O’Dally street in Santa Cruz de La Palma lasted for more than half an hour.
In front of the town hall of the capital of La Palma, the popular ex-president has valued the figure of Asier Antona, “whom I have known for years and with whom I worked intensely for the approval of the last budgets of my mandate to negotiate support in the provinces Canaries”, he recounted.
The president of the Popular Party of the Canary Islands and candidate for the Presidency of the regional government, Manuel Domínguez, has pointed out the need to consolidate municipalism as a reference for a regional government.
In the same way, the candidate for the presidency of the Cabildo de La Palma, Mariano Hernández Zapata, declared that his political formation has managed to add candidacies for the 14 municipalities of the island, “with door-to-door work to get our proposals across and fulfilled commitments.
The popular candidate for mayor of Santa Cruz de La Palma, Asier Antona, thanked the presence of the various officials from his party, and especially former president Mariano Rajoy, whom he considers “an amulet” because “a few years ago he assured us that Noelia García Leal would be mayor and he himself president of the Government, and so it was.
During his visit to La Palma, Mariano Rajoy also participated on Friday evening in a party event in Los Llanos de Aridane in front of some 400 members, neighbors and onlookers.
In this forum, Rajoy highlighted the importance of popular militants in consolidating the party’s presence in La Palma and the rest of the state territories after the 28M elections, and praised the mayoress of Los Llanos, Noelia García Leal, and the president of the Cabildo de La Palma, Mariano Zapata, because “they have been giving the callous, the battle, and doing everything in their power to make things go ahead”.
