Santander (EFE) the town of La Serna de Iguña and which is attached to several meadows.
Adif sources have told EFE that no passenger on the train has been injured, although the railway has been rendered “useless” and circulation is cut off because there is only one track in that area, so it will have to retire to reestablish itself, if there is no damage to the tracks.
The Alvia train made the Santander-Madrid route, leaving the Cantabrian capital at 1:55 p.m., while the incident was reported at 2:40 p.m.
There were 106 passengers on the train, who had to be transferred in a commuter train to the nearby town of Barcena de Pie de Concha, to take another Alvia to Madrid from there.
Adif explains in a statement that it has had to interrupt traffic in the Arenas de Iguña area “at the request of the authorities” and, therefore, users who are going to travel on the Santander-Madrid railway line will make the section between Los Corrales de Buelna and Bárcena de Pie de Concha by bus.
The company also assures that travelers will be informed of this incident, in which members of the Civil Guard, regional firefighters and a 061 ambulance have been present, whose doctor has only been able to certify the death of the tractor driver.
