Madrid, Apr 27 (EFE) adapt the capital to the challenges of the coming times, a project that, in his opinion, clashes with the perspective offered by the municipal government team of PP and Cs, which he defines as a “vague” Executive.
Maestre has starred this Thursday in an informative meeting at the Club Siglo XXI, in which he has taken stock of the municipal government of PP and has presented the lines of his political project for the capital facing the elections on May 28, 2023, to those that Más Madrid arrives with the “endorsement” of having governed four years in the past and having spent another four doing “propositional opposition” work.
The candidate has accused the Executive of José Luis Martínez-Almeida of “patching” the problems of the capital with the timely resolution of some issues and has regretted that PP and Cs have made the capital “an exception” on issues such as ” green agenda”, while focusing on issues such as the growing depopulation of the capital, from where, according to what he has stated, 55,000 people have left in recent years.
And he has assured that if the left adds up, for his part “there will be a government the day after the elections” on May 28.
At an “urgent” level, Maestre has indicated that, if More Madrid arrives at the Cibeles Palace, it would incorporate measures to protect the capital against heat such as the “decarbonization of public buildings”, that “all schoolyards have, at least , awning”, or doing everything possible so that each street has a 30% tree mass, as well as that the neighbors have a “real” park 300 meters from their house.
“You have to act in environments and schools, you have to open swimming pools and maintain the fountains,” he said in this regard.
At the mobility level, the candidate proposes a “revolution” and “improvement” in public transport in which residents “can freely choose” the means of transport they want or a high-speed bus network.
Regarding cleanliness, one of the three biggest concerns of Madrid residents according to the 2022 municipal quality of life survey, Maestre has expressed that the “centralized cleaning management model” has to move towards a “decentralized” model and, On a concrete level, he has recalled some measures already proposed in the past, such as deploying a body of 500 inspectors to monitor compliance with contracts.
And, in this sense, he is committed to a public environmental services company “in the style of the EMT” being the “point of direction” of a comprehensive strategy to reverse the current state of the capital, because, in his opinion, “Madrid is very dirty and it continues to be despite the new contract with more money”, for which he has described Almeida’s model as “insufficient”.
With the terraces, Rita Maestre proposes “acting differently” depending on the neighbourhood, while there are places where these spaces “have a very positive effect” and others, such as Ibiza or Ponzano, where the street has become “a a permanent town festival”.
For this reason, it advocates “putting a brake on saturation” in the most stressed areas and “guaranteeing that what is written is complied with” in the ordinance that regulates this activity.
And on the issue of housing, which Maestre considers “the main problem” in the capital, Más Madrid advocates the implementation of 10,000 public affordable rental homes in eight years and the regulation of rental prices, among other initiatives.
Finally, he referred to the field of culture, a field with which the municipal and regional governments of the PP have “a very apathetic and sectarian relationship”, for which reason he is committed to revitalizing this sector.
