A Coruña (EFE) allow free public visits at least four days a month.
The head of the Xunta, Alfonso Rueda, explained at a press conference that the file to declare Casa Cornide BIC, which the Galician Government began in May 2021, has concluded, for which reason the two-year period established has expired, after the request made by the City Council of A Coruña.
The BIC declaration, number 780 in Galicia, supposes the “recognition of the cultural value and the protection and safeguarding of the building” and obliges the current owners to open it at least four days a month for public visits, as happened in the Pazo of Meirás in his day.
In this way, the Xunta has approved the comprehensive protection of the property located at Calle Damas, number 25 in the city of A Coruña.
The Cornide House, architectural singularity
The decree considers this building as a monument that stands out architecturally for its uniqueness by fusing a certain military character defined by the robustness of its stone appearance, its own baroque elements and its cosmopolitan character of the architecture of the first Enlightenment.
The 250-year-old building is one of the few remaining examples of Enlightenment residential architecture in Galicia, and one of the most outstanding personalities of the Age of Enlightenment lived there, the polygraph from A Coruña, José Andrés Cornide Folgueira. and Saavedra.
The ownership of Casa Cornide, which passed from the A Coruña City Council to Carmen Polo, Franco’s widow, during the dictatorship, is currently the subject of controversy and the City Council announced legal actions to recover it.
