Barcelona (EFE) , which ends on June 30, 2023.
FC Barcelona needs to balance its balance sheet, which involves reducing operating expenses by 200 million euros. In this context of serious economic crisis, the cut plan is affecting all areas of the entity, including its television.
And it is that, as they explained to EFE from sources of the Barcelona entity, the closure of Barça TV will mean a saving of about 15 million euros per year.
This same Thursday, TBSC Telefónica informed the employees of Barça TV that, “for economic reasons”, the club had decided not to renew their contract and close the channel, sources from the workers confirmed to EFE.
The measure will affect approximately 120 professionals, including contracted personnel and collaborators. Barça TV had been operating since 1996 and, during these 27 years, the channel has been managed, at different stages, by Telefónica, Mediapro and also by the club itself.
For the moment, the entity maintains Barça Studios, the production company that brings together the entire audiovisual offer of the club and which is owned by FC Barcelona.
