This is how the Prosecutor’s Office maintains it in its complaint, advanced by El País and to which EFE has had access, which led to the girls’ father, Guhlam Abbas, being arrested on February 22 by the Mossos d’Esquadra and the National Police for his alleged involvement with the crime, after which a judge in Terrassa (Barcelona) released him provisionally, withdrew his passport and prohibited him from leaving Spain.
The Prosecutor’s Office presented its complaint on December 27, although it has not been disclosed until now, after the secrecy of the proceedings in this case was lifted, opened after the murder on May 20, 2022 of the sisters Arooj and Aneesa, aged 24 and 21. years old, by several relatives in an “honor killing” committed in the town of Nothia, Pakistan.
He tricked them into traveling to Pakistan
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the father, “in view of the defiant attitude of his daughters, who did not abide by their forced marriage and maintained a sentimental relationship with other couples, hatched, along with other relatives, a plan to deceive them and make them travel to Pakistan with the in order to cleanse his honor.
With this objective, he decided to send his wife and three sons to Pakistan between March and May 2022 so that, from there, the older brother, Raja, “mendaciously” convinced the sisters to move to his country. to attend his wedding and because his mother was not in good health.
The two sisters, despite the “fear of reprisals” they had for their “behavior in defiance of parental rules”, according to the Prosecutor’s Office, were “convinced by deception” to move, on May 18, 2022, to Pakistan, where they were murdered. two days later by his brothers, their husbands and his uncle, “with the consent” of his father, as it was an “honor killing”.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, this crime was intended to “cleanse the honor of the family”, so the perpetrators were direct relatives of the girls, “the criteria of the head of the family having special importance.”
Two brothers of the victims, Raja and Asfand, have already been arrested in Pakistan as alleged perpetrators of the crime.
He subjected his daughters to control and permanent mistreatment
The Prosecutor’s Office considers that the father allegedly committed the crimes of induction or necessary cooperation in a crime of homicide or murder, forced marriage, habitual abuse in the family environment and continued coercion against his two daughters.
Ghulam Abbas, who has permanently resided in Spain since August 2015, processed family reunification in 2017 with his daughter Aneesa, who was 16 years old at the time, and his son Raja, who settled with his father in his house in Terrassa.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, Aneesa was “permanently controlled” by her father, to the point that she could not relate to anyone beyond the family sphere, she could not leave the house if her father or brother did not accompany her, and she suffered constant “mistreatment ” by Ghulam Abbas, to the point that the girl attempted suicide on one occasion.
When Aneesa had been in Spain for two years, in November 2019, her father moved with her to Pakistan to marry a relative with whom he had arranged a marriage of convenience, without her knowledge, so she was forced to get married on December 22, 2019.
After the forced wedding, Aneesa returned to Spain on January 26, 2020 and later, at the beginning of 2021, she began a sentimental relationship with a Pakistani citizen residing in Barcelona, thus breaking her relationship with her father, who did not accept her conduct. .
At the same time, according to the Prosecutor’s Office, the father carried out the procedures for his other daughter, Arooj, to move to Spain, which he did in October 2020, together with his mother and his other brother Asfand.
Arooj, who had been forced to marry in Pakistan in November 2019, lived with her family in Terrassa, where she was “permanently controlled” by her father and also subjected to ill-treatment.
Faced with this situation of “control and mistreatment”, according to the Prosecutor’s Office, Arooj left the parental home at the beginning of 2022 and ended up living with his sister Aneesa in a rented room in Barcelona, until his father tricked them into returning to Pakistan. where both were killed.
