Santa Cruz de Tenerife (EFE).- The president of the PP of the Canary Islands and candidate for the Presidency of the Autonomous Community, Manuel Domínguez, has promised to have the Canarian Plan to Fight Poverty before the end of the year and has blamed the government of Ángel Víctor Torres of the increase in the poverty gap on the islands, which is more than 10 points above the national average.
Domínguez indicates in a statement that the Government has recognized that it has not yet begun the work to prepare said plan, therefore, in his opinion, it confirms that “the groups that make up the government pact are not a priority” for which ” It is not strange that under the Torres presidency, the number of Canaries at risk of poverty has not stopped increasing in the last four years and today we have 25,630 more Canaries at risk of poverty than four years ago”.
The PP candidate affirms that an in-depth analysis of the Survey of Living Conditions in the Canary Islands published on April 24 by the National Institute of Statistics shows that the social shield of this government has been a failure and has not managed to prevent the Canary Islands from move from third to second place in the national poverty ranking.
In this regard, he wondered what this government and, specifically, the person in charge of the Ministry of Social Rights, has done with the 65 million that the Government of Spain has allocated to the Canary Islands to prevent the increase in social exclusion in the Archipelago.
In his opinion, it is unacceptable that the government “with the largest budgets and with the most fiscal greed in history throughout the legislature” has been incapable of stopping the increase in poverty on the islands.
He has criticized what he considers “the triumphalism” of Torres and has stressed that according to the National Institute of Statistics the AROPE rate in the archipelago has increased from 35% in 2019 to 36.2% in 2022.
It also asks those responsible for the “so-called progress pact” to explain why the number of canaries who cannot afford unforeseen expenses has increased by 7 points or that those who cannot afford to maintain their home have increased by 12 points. a suitable temperature. EFE
