Santander (EFE).- Salvamento Marítimo has been searching since the early hours of this Tuesday for a fisherman who fell into the sea from the boat he was working on, the Galician fishing vessel Novo Xoel, based in Camariñas (A Coruña), five miles north of San Vicente de la Barquera.
As reported to EFE by sources from this agency under the Ministry of Transport, at 7:40 a.m. it received an alert from the fishing boat’s radio that a crew member had fallen into the sea for reasons that are still unknown.
The missing fisherman, who has been wanted since the alert was issued, was wearing a life jacket and waterproof clothing, according to what the fishing boat crew reported to Salvamento Marítimo.
In the search work are the Helimer Maritime Rescue helicopter, the Salvamar patrol boat and two Civil Guard patrol boats, as well as the Alonso de Chaves ship, which was on the Cantabrian coast to try to also locate the other fisherman who disappeared on the 3rd of April in the shipwreck of the “Vilaboa Uno”, north of Santander.
The 112 helicopter and the hospital ship Esperanza del Mar also participate in the device.
Revilla: “We’re on a terrible streak”
The president of Cantabria, Miguel Ángel Revilla, has lamented the disappearance of this fisherman, who comes to grief four weeks after the death of two other sailors and the disappearance of another in Vilaboa Uno, off the coast of Santander.
“We have had a terrible streak of accidents at sea, which is complicated,” acknowledged the head of the Cantabrian Executive.
Revilla, who has lamented that once again the sea takes a person.
Rueda: “A hard and sad day”
The president of the Xunta, Alfonso Rueda, has expressed, for his part, his “support and solidarity” with the family and companions of the sailor, whom industry sources have identified to EFE as César Edwar Barba Tejada, born in Peru in 1975. and resident in María Pita de Arteixo street (A Coruña).
“Hard and sad day for the people of the sea due to the disappearance of one of our sailors in Cantabrian waters,” Rueda posted in a message on his Twitter account, in which, apart from showing solidarity with those close to him, he thanked the work of all involved in the search for this fisherman.
