Barcelona (EFE).- A stranger left a briefcase with 64,000 euros last Friday, and a note detailing that it was a donation, at the door of the Sant Antoni Abat Hospital in Vilanova i la Geltrú (Barcelona), according to the regional weekly La Fura and sources from the Mossos d’Esquadra have confirmed to EFE.
Those responsible for the center alerted the Catalan police after the discovery.
The authorities have opened an investigation to confirm that the money is not of illicit origin, although everything indicates that it is an anonymous charitable donation.
The discovery took place last Friday, when a “very old” man, who according to the indications would be the donor, entered the hospital and informed the staff that there was a briefcase at the door of the center.
After the notice, the workers kept the black suitcase, waiting for someone to claim it, but since no one did, they finally opened it.
The briefcase left in the hospital contained banknotes “damp and in poor condition”
Inside they found 64,000 euros in bills that were “damp and in poor condition,” according to hospital sources cited by La Fura, as well as a note specifying that it was a donation.
Catalan police sources have indicated that the main hypothesis is that the old man who gave the notice is the donor of this large contribution.
If, as expected, it is not discovered that it is illicit money, the hospital will be able to receive the donation, the same sources have added.
