Barcelona (EFE) that “listen to the Catalans today” and be clear that “democracy and voting is never a trap”.
The Catalan president spoke to the media at the Palau de la Generalitat on the occasion of Sant Jordi’s day, after receiving cultural associations and entities, florists, bakers and pastry chefs, among others.
“The Day of Sant Jordi is a day when we Catalans take to the streets to be passionate about culture, to live collectively what we are, to celebrate that we are a nation that loves books, culture and its language. Sant Jordi is a way of celebrating Catalan identity, of being a nation”, she asserted.
For Aragonès, it is a festival to “continue to claim Catalan, its social use, its promotion and give our language all the tools that other languages in the world have to defend themselves.”
But the Catalan president also wanted to respond, when asked about it, to the words of the Minister of the Presidency, Relations with the Courts and Democratic Memory, Félix Bolaños, who last Friday opined that the Government’s proposal for a clarity agreement to laying the foundations for an agreed referendum is “unilateral” and “electoralist”, as well as “a trap”.
“Voting is never a trap. Democracy is never a trap”, Aragonès has warned. “And if someone considers that voting and agreeing collectively on the future is a trap, it is because their model is not one of trust in the citizens and in the decisions they make.”
“I recommend that you listen to the public today”
In this sense, given the presence in this Sant Jordi in Catalonia of Bolaños and other ministers, as well as the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, Aragonès wanted to “always welcome” anyone who comes to know Catalonia, but has advised them that “it is a very good day to listen to the citizens of Catalonia”.
“To the members of other institutions, governments and politicians who visit us today, I recommend that they listen to the public and that they always listen to it, not only on Sant Jordi day. And the best way to listen to it is to let Catalonia express itself at the polls. That is what the proposal for a clarity agreement is about ”, he insisted.
It has also ruled on the so-called “Operation Catalonia” and the published information indicating that the alleged bank account of the former mayor of Barcelona Xavier Trias was set up by a French police officer who received funds of 25,000 euros from reserved funds, according to Rac1.
“Operation Catalonia and the espionage with Pegasus add to a long list of repressive actions carried out by the State against the independence movement. Some have been insulted and attempts have been made to build stories to attack certain people. We demand maximum transparency from the State. There is a lot of room for improvement that the Government explains ”, he has sentenced.
