Huesca (EFE).- The president of Aragon, Javier Lambán, has warned that the Aragonese Community will be “intransigent” before any national government that is established in the future, “whatever sign it is”, in defense of the use of its own energy resources for the economic, business and social development of the territory.
Lambán made this statement during the institutional act to celebrate Aragon Day in Huesca, during which the Medal of Social Merit was awarded to the Alianza Agroalimentaria Aragonese for its work in disseminating to society the importance of the agri-food sector and the of Sports Merit to Club Hielo de Jaca for the successes achieved during its 51 years of existence.
In his speech, Lambán defended self-government as the tool that has allowed Aragon to “free itself from its complexes” and face its future with its own decisions aimed at guaranteeing its development and economic growth, after centuries, he added, in which the Aragonese Community it was “postponed and mistreated” by the successive governments of Spain.
Within this framework, he has defended the need to “open a path” linked to the whole of the Spanish nation but also to promote the development of the territory through the use of its own resources, including renewable energy.
Example of energy colonialism
“During the 20th century, Aragon was an example of energy colonialism from which neighboring communities such as Catalonia and the Basque Country benefited and which caused the exodus of thousands of Aragonese women”, Lambán highlighted before defending the use of renewable energy produced in the Community to feed the industry, but also to make the territory attractive to companies and favor a reduction in electricity rates for citizens.
The Aragonese leader has also defended other pioneering initiatives proposed from Aragon to the rest of the communities, such as the adoption of an initiative aimed at strengthening the public health system and preventing its collapse, or the way to deal with large fires derived from climate change that, As he added, they are not fought with natural resources and means but with initiatives derived from public-private collaboration to keep the forest clean.
Absolutely successful growth model
He has insisted that after 40 years of self-government, Aragon has an “absolutely successful” growth model, stressing that if the economy of the 21st century is based on digitization, modernization, agri-food or logistics, “It is going to have in the Aragonese Community an absolutely insurmountable scenario for its development”.
“There is no better way to be Spanish than to be Aragonese”, stressed the Aragonese president before expressing his support for the Spanish political project of unity and his intention to “fight anyone who strays from this path unconstitutionally”.
In this sense, he has defended the policy of agreements and pacts that has traditionally been developed in Aragon, “a path of success as long as it is governed from moderation, that trenches are not dug between the left and the right and that share common paths.
A policy, he added, that “will allow us to move away from the shouting, from the frontism and from those ways that are devouring Madrid and national politics, which we have to fight by setting an example of political well-being.”
