Las Vegas (USA), (EFE).- The singer Karol G became the most awarded artist of the Latin American Music Awards 2023 (Latin AMAs), in a ceremony that shone for its tributes.
The Colombian received 8 awards, among which were best artist, tour of the year, best pop song and best urban artist and others.
Despite being the great protagonist of the night, the interpreter of “Tusa” was conspicuous by her absence, leaving Becky G, the second most recognized.
Becky received the applause of her colleagues and the public that attended the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas (Nevada).
The Mexican interpreter received four distinctions and shared three with Karol G for their collaboration “MAMIII”, which was chosen as the song of the year, the collaboration of the year and the best urban collaboration.
Latin American Music Awards, Becky G shone at the gala
“I don’t know how many awards ‘MAMIII’ has won, but each one means something stronger than us.
Women to power always! Together we are more!” Becky G assured 5 awards from the stage.
Bad Bunny was the great promise of the night as he was the most nominated artist, but the reggaeton player only managed to take home three awards.
They were the awards: best album of the year, best urban album and best urban song, all derived from their latest album, “Un verano sin ti”.
Rosalía won the distinctions for best pop album for “Motomami” and for crossover collaboration of the year for “La fama”, together with the Canadian The Weeknd.
Shakira also stood out
The Colombian Shakira, the Puerto Rican Romeo Santos, The Weeknd himself and the Mexican Junior H were other featured artists.
They each won two awards each during the Latino celebration, while Argentinian producer Bizarrap was named the new artist of the year.
The ceremony got off to a strong start once Pitbull, Vikina and Omar Courtz stepped on stage to perform “It makes me sick”.
Then the event quickly turned romantic with the appearance of newlyweds Lele Pons and Guaynaa.
The party continued with performances by reggaeton legends such as Wisin and “La Abeja Reina”, Chiquis Rivera.
But, without a doubt, some of the most anticipated moments of the night were the presentations of Becky G with the musical phenomenon Peso Pluma and the song “Chanel”, the interpretation of “No se va” by Grupo Frontera, or the act of Bad Gyal with “Pimp”.
A night of tributes at the Latin America Music Awards
The gala was characterized by the tributes paid to Pepe Aguilar, Carlos Vives, David Bisbal and Prince Royce, who had the opportunity to sing their most iconic songs with their fellow members of the guild.
“30 years ago music showed me two paths: copy the successful genres of the moment or transform the music of my land and feel proud to be Colombian,” said Vives upon receiving the Legend award.
The same award was received by Aguilar from his daughter Ángela, being one of the most emotional moments of the night.
David Bisbal, the Spanish quota
“It’s something that I don’t feel I deserve because the only thing I’ve done is follow my heart and my passion,” said the interpreter.
Upon receiving the Pioneer distinction, Bisbal highlighted the great inspiration that Latino singers such as Ricky Martin and Chayanne had been in his career.
“When I had the opportunity to record my first album, it occurred to me to merge it with the roots of Almería, Andalusia and Spain, and to date I have not stopped doing it,” he said proudly.
The ceremony also included performances by Anuel AA, Emilia, Carin León, Manuel Turizo, Natti Natasha, Justin Quiles, Myke Towers and Ángela Aguilar, among others.
This is the first time that the Latin AMAs have been broadcast on the Univisión television network, after seven years of being broadcast by Telemundo, and it is the second edition that has been broadcast from Las Vegas.
