Madrid, Apr 20 (EFE).- The Madrid City Council joins the celebration of Book Day, next Sunday, with a large program of cultural events in various municipal spaces “with the aim of promoting reading and paying tribute to books and authors.
There will be activities in museums, libraries, cultural centers and on the Cuesta de Moyano, says a note from the City Council this Thursday in which the local government states that “Books are already very present in the city with the campaign ‘Sit down reading-sit down a leer’, which has placed book-shaped benches in the Plaza de Cibeles, the Paseo de Recoletos in front of the National Library or the confluence between the streets of Alcalá and Gran Vía.
According to the program prepared by the City Council (bibliotecas.madrid.es/portal/site/bibliotecas), public libraries will host reading workshops, storytelling, meetings with readers and all kinds of activities related to reading.
The City Council museums will have guided tours, dramatic readings and talks about books.
With the title ‘Madrid, Muse of Letters’, the Belgian Sawmill will host a tour of the important literary movements from the Golden Age to the Generation of ’27, passing through Realism and Naturalism, Modernism and Noucentisme and the Generation of ’98.
In addition, the Fernán Gómez theater. Centro Cultural de la Villa joins the celebration with a continuous poetry reading, while Matadero Madrid and the History Museum will host concerts from the Piano City festival inspired by the relationship between music and literature.
And the Soy de la Cuesta Association, within the programming promoted by the Department of Culture, Tourism and Sports, ‘revives’ the writer Colette by reading some of her works.
THE DAY OF THE BOOK IN THE MUSEUMS
On the other hand, the museums of San Isidro, Contemporary Art, History and the Municipal Printing-Arts of the Book have planned different events aimed at the reading public.
Tomorrow, Friday, April 21, the History Museum has organized a guided tour in which the exlibris it treasures will be shown, and the Museum of Contemporary Art invites children and adults to its workshop ‘Playing art’ on Saturday and Sunday .
The Municipal Printing Arts of the Book will offer on Sunday the dramatized reading “Don Quixote and the forest of book men”, and also on the 23rd the San Isidro Museum will host a meeting around myth and poetry.
Also on Sunday, the Soy de la Cuesta Association and Moyano booksellers will celebrate April 23 with a tribute to one of the most iconic figures in French literature, Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette (Saint-Sauveur-en-Puisaye, 1873- Paris, 1954).
The proposal will ‘revive’ Colette by reading passages from some of her works such as “Gigi”, “Dúo”, “Chérie” or “El Quepis” in front of booths on the Cuesta between 12:00 and 14:00 hours, with the actress Juliette Gradat characterized as Colette.
