Santiago de Compostela, April 20 (EFE).- The doctors’ strike in Galicia, called by the State Confederation of Medical Unions (CESM), has come to an end tonight after nine days of strikes.
After a meeting of more than six hours between the union and the Ministry of Health, an agreement has been reached to end a strike by doctors that lasted between April 11 and 19.
After the meeting, the Minister of Health, Julio García Comesaña, explained the agreements reached and that this Thursday they will be discussed at the Sector Table, in which the rest of the unions are represented.
In this way, several economic issues have been agreed, such as an “update in the price of an hour on call” so that Galicia remains in the upper average of the salary table at the state level.
A specific special module has also been adopted for professionals who have to do more than five consecutive shifts after which the doctor will be paid more.
In addition, progress has been made on another of the collective’s requests regarding the specific supplement requested by doctors to be able to reconcile their practice in private and public healthcare.
During June the proposal will be finalized so that it enters into force in January 2024.
Progress has also been made so that December 24 and 31 are counted in a special way for health personnel.
During the nine days that the strike lasted, according to the latest data from the Administration, a total of 1,670 surgeries, 32,696 outpatient consultations and 2,691 tests had to be suspended.
For this reason, for the minister the end of the conflict is “good news” and progress has been made to recover the lost activity despite the fact that the most serious cases were not affected, he says in an audio sent to the media. EFE
