Santa Cruz de Tenerife (EFE).- Nueva Canarias (NC) and the Agrupación Herreña Independiente (AHI) have agreed to establish an electoral alliance for the elections on May 28 for municipalities and Cabildo herreños and for the Parliament of the Canary Islands.
The agreement was signed this Wednesday by the president of the AHI, Javier Armas, and the president of Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista, Román Rodríguez, both political groups reported in a statement.
The commitment is that Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista, an organization with a Canarian scope, will not present itself with its acronym on the island of El Hierro and will support the Agrupación Herreña Independiente, “recognizing its historical role as promoter of a sustainable island and nationalism consequent”.
For this, Nueva Canarias will propose people to join the lists presented by the Agrupación Herreña Independiente, a party that was previously allied with the Canary Islands Coalition.
The parliamentary representation obtained by AHI and NC will be coordinated, within the framework of the autonomy of each party, to develop “the global proposals” that they defend for the whole of the Canary Islands.
Both parties announce that they want to contribute “to the most appropriate development of the island of El Hierro to improve the quality of life of its inhabitants and make them equal, at least, to the rest of the Canaries; as well as contributing, from El Hierro, to the common project of a supportive, sustainable and socially and territorially balanced Canary Islands”.
AHI and NC-BC report that they will base their agreement on the development of public strategies that allow “balanced economic and social growth, avoiding inequalities and allowing the sustainability of private initiative as an engine of development in the workplace.”
“Both parties consider it important to rescue, revalue and strengthen the island’s primary sector, so agriculture, livestock and fishing must occupy a preferential place in government action, with plans for the recovery of intensive agriculture, especially of the production of pineapples from El Hierro and other tropical products, for which proper water management is necessary, both for the consumption of the population and for irrigation”, establishes the agreement.
The culmination of the energy sustainability plans for the island of El Hierro, specifically those related to the Gorona del Viento company, in order to reach the goal of 100% renewable energy on the island as soon as possible is another of the objectives.
Regarding land and territory, they propose to unblock local and insular territorial planning “to guarantee the balanced development of El Hierro while conserving the insular heritage and culture”.
AHI and NC will defend the Canarian tax differential and “a progressive and fair tax system that enables the functioning of essential public services, the development and maintenance of infrastructures and, in particular, the essential role of assigned and own taxes to guarantee the adequate financing of city councils and councils”.
The defense of the fundamental public services that are provided in El Hierro and to prevent remoteness and other economic factors from undermining the rights of the people of El Hierro and putting them at a disadvantage compared to the rest of the Canaries are also included in the electoral agreement.
