Santander, (EFE).- The National Police and the Civil Guard have dismantled a gang responsible for at least 45 robberies in catering establishments in Cantabria, from which they took 90,000 euros.
The gang was made up of three men aged 48, 26 and 22, born in Moldavia and Romania, who lived in La Penilla de Cayón and Revilla de Camargo. Robberies in neighboring communities are also attributed to them.
The Government delegate, Ainoa Quiñones, reported these arrests this Wednesday, accompanied by the Police Chief, Carmen Martínez, and the Colonel Chief of the Civil Guard, Antonio Orantos.
The three men were arrested on March 23 after a robbery in Soto de la Marina (Santa Cruz de Bezana). And his entry into prison was decreed after going to court.
in two minutes
The gang neutralized the alarm systems and, “in little more than two minutes, they stole or forced the self-service cash registers or the armored cash registers with great speed, stealing the money.”
“This very rapid way of acting complicated the reaction of the service patrols of the State Security Forces and Corps,” he said.
In addition, the members of the group “always acted with their faces covered and left the vehicle with which they traveled several kilometers, in order to avoid being detected in their flight.”
According to the investigators, the gang was not acting randomly, but was studying the catering establishments where they intended to steal.
He prepared himself by checking the security measures, his location and trying to find out the type of cash register he had, as well as the escape routes.
And it worked with “a hierarchy” since each member had specific missions.
3,000 euros and abundant coins
In the searches of vehicles and homes in Penilla de Cayón and Revilla de Camargo, some 3,000 euros in bills and abundant coins were seized, partly from his latest robbery.
Likewise, a significant number of tools were seized to carry out these robberies, such as radials, shears, hammers, drills, portable transmission systems or documentation with notes on possible targets.
With these arrests, 45 robberies have been clarified in Santander, Torrelavega, Camargo, Hoznayo, Noja, Isla, Suances, Puente Arce, Escalante, Selaya and Vega de Pas, among other towns.
The Government delegate has detailed that the operation had been underway for two years and has highlighted the “enormous work” jointly between the National Police and the Civil Guard.
According to Quiñones, after the latest arrests, robberies in areas such as Cueto or Monte “have stopped”, although there are still ongoing investigations to clarify them. EFE
