Madrid (EFE).- The Government will approve this Tuesday its plan to allocate 50,000 Sareb homes for affordable rent, of which 35,000 have already been identified and another 15,000 will be built on land ceded by that public company.
This plan, which was announced last weekend by the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, in an electoral act in Valencia, forms part of the Executive’s commitment to promote 100,000 affordable rental homes.
Unidas Podemos has been demanding the PSOE since the beginning of the legislature that all the homes of the Asset Management Company from the Bank Restructuring (Sareb) be included in a public rental park and, although it tried to negotiate it within the housing law the socialists never accepted it.
Belarra considers that the plan responds to her claim
Its Secretary General and Minister of Social Rights, Ione Belarra, considers that the plan “responds perfectly” to his claim and that he does not care if his announcement at a Pedro Sánchez rally obeys electoral interest or another reason.
For their part, the Socialists have always opted for the construction of a public park for rent through formulas of public-private collaboration to increase the offer.
Calviño advocates “reconstituting” the public housing stock
The First Vice President and Minister of Economic Affairs, Nadia Calviño, has advocated in recent hours to “reconstitute” the public housing stock that was “dismantled by previous governments.”
Sareb, created eleven years ago to buy real estate assets from bankrupt savings banks and banks in the financial crisis of 2008, has been controlled by the State since last year.
It currently has ceded some 2,700 homes to the autonomous communities and town halls despite the fact that the stock of flats reserved for this purpose amounts to 15,000 units and Sánchez wants to raise the figure to some 21,000 homes.
The plan that will be approved tomorrow by the Council of Ministers includes (among the 35,000 houses already identified) 14,000 apartments already occupied in which a social rental will be offered to families to avoid evictions and another 21,000 units that will be made available to municipalities and communities autonomous.
