Brussels, r (EFE).- The president of Navarra, María Chivite, said Tuesday in Brussels that it is “possible” that the European Union (EU) delay from 2025 to 2027 the entry into force of the Euro 7 regulation that limits the car emissions. In this way, it will be possible to manufacture combustion vehicles at the Volskwagen factory in Pamplona until that date.
The possibility of setting this postponement is what, according to Chivite, the European Commission “informally” conveyed to the Government of Navarra during a meeting that both parties held at the headquarters of the Commission’s General Directorate for Industry, with the head of the Community Executive Mobility Unit, Mark Nicklas.
The Government of Navarra “moderately optimistic”
“We left the meeting moderately optimistic. What we wanted to tell you is what Euro 7 means in terms of employment for our Community, where the automotive sector is so important, not only for large companies, but for the entire supplier park,” Chivite pointed out in statements to the press after the match.
The Navarrese president assured that her government does not question the essence of the Euro 7 regulations, “but the implementation times”, and explained that this is an approach that “other regions” of the EU with the automotive industry are also “bringing” to Brussels.
I know that there are other countries that are transferring it like this and, therefore, we left moderately optimistic that it could finally be until the year 2027 (the postponement of the Euro 7 regulations) ”, he settled.
Chivite warns of the risks of not postponing the norm
Chivite warned that, if this rule is not postponed, the small company that provides automotive materials “could not survive” and, for this reason, asked to “accompany with employment” the electrification of the automotive industry sector.
In this sense, he recalled that the Navarrese Government is “favorable to the transformation”, and that “there are already committed investments for the manufacture of electric vehicles”, for example, in the Volkswagen factory in Pamplona. “But it is true that we need time to make this transformation,” the president qualified.
The entry into force of the Euro 7 regulation is expected in 2025
The Euro 7 regulation, whose entry into force is scheduled for 2025, provides for new cuts in polluting emissions for cars sold in the EU until 2035, the year from which only zero-emission vehicles can be marketed.
This Euro 7 regulation proposed by the Commission includes as a novelty a reduction in polluting emissions from car brakes and wheels, although the final text of the regulation is still pending negotiation and approval by the European Parliament and the Member States. of the EU, represented in the Council.
“We will closely monitor this issue. We will work with the different members of the Commission and also with the groups of the European Parliament, to be informed and that finally the date can be the year 2027, that this would guarantee employment in our Community”, stated Chivite. EFE
