Madrid (EFE).- The Madrid president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, will symbolically close the PP list for the Mayor of Bilbao headed by Esther Martínez for the May 28 elections.
Sources of the PP in Madrid have indicated that it does so as a show of support “for the party in the Basque Country, the Constitution and the unity of Spain.”
Ayuso has a special relationship with the party in the Basque Country. One of her first tasks as a ‘popular’ member was to campaign for María San Gil when she presented herself as a candidate for lehendakari. She returned the gesture of her supporting her in 2019.
Ayuso has also underlined on many occasions the courage of the Basque PP and its work to defend freedom in a “very difficult” environment.
PP sources have advanced that the director of Ayuso’s Cabinet, Miguel Ángel Rodríguez, will also be the candidate in the last position in Durango.
Cristina Cuesta, president of the Miguel Ángel Blanco Foundation and daughter of the Telefónica delegate in Gipuzkoa assassinated by ETA, Enrique Cuesta, will appear on Galdakao’s list.
Martinez: “Enchanted”
The PP candidate for mayor of Bilbao has declared herself “delighted” that Ayuso closes her list.
“We are delighted that Isabel Díaz Ayuso is accompanying us in Bilbao’s candidacy.” “We want to thank her for her generosity and her great support for the Basque PP, since always,” Martínez stated in a note.
The Bilbao candidate has considered that Ayuso is “a role model” for his “management, defense of freedom, leadership and courage”.
“We share that no one can impose their feelings because above all else is individual freedom, the freedom of each person,” he added.
Martínez recalled “that an autonomous community, like a municipality, is made by everyone, thinking about the well-being of people and the defense of their rights and freedoms, the freedoms of everyday life.” EFE
