Motril (Granada) (EFE).- The elite athlete, mountaineer and climber Beatriz Flamini has left this Friday the cave in which she has remained alone for 500 days at a depth of 70 meters, thus fulfilling the challenge she set for herself when she decided to live this personal challenge, which he has defined as “excellent and insurmountable”.
With the help of members of the Motril Speleological Activities Group, the coastal town of Granada where the cave is located, Flamini emerged minutes after 9:00 a.m. in apparent good health, wearing sunglasses to protect his eyes. and a wide smile from the underground refuge that has been his home for the more than sixteen months that the experiment has lasted, with which he has also broken a world record.
In the early hours of the morning, two speleologists and a psychologist went down to the cave to provide coverage for the athlete on her way out, which lasted about 40 minutes.
Outside the cave, in addition to people involved in the project, were waiting for her, friends who, wearing a mask to protect their health, welcomed her with loud applause, to which Flamini, who entered at 48 and left at 50 , has responded by saying that he loves them “a lot” and that he feels “very grateful”, and has apologized and that they do not take into account what happened below.
Long hugs with friends and members of the team who have followed her situation on a daily basis have followed one another in the reception of the athlete, who will offer a press conference starting at 11:00 a.m. to recount her experience.
Once more calm, and always smiling, she addressed the media gathered there: “I would like to be able to be kind, to be able to answer you but there is a press conference, if you allow me I can take a shower, I’ve been here for a year and a half without touching the water, see you later in a little while”.
A producer has recorded her daily life
He has also thanked the professionalism of the group of psychologists, speleologists and physical trainers involved in the project because without them, he has said, it would not have been possible.
During all this time, she has been leaving the video cards she recorded in the exchange area of the cave scheduled with the speleologists, where food delivery and garbage removal also took place without any communication.
This experience is part of the “Timecave” project, which began two years ago, when this passionate solo expedition to the highest peaks in the world and an expert in self-sufficiency contacted the producer Dokumalia to challenge her to remain alone and without contact. outside in a cave for 500 days.
The producer has recorded her daily life seventy meters underground, which research groups from the universities of Granada and Almería have followed closely to study how social isolation and extreme temporary disorientation affect the perception of time, as well as the changes neuropsychological problems that this tremendous challenge has entailed in the face of loneliness, the absence of natural light and cognitive and social isolation.
