Lula, who arrived in the capital last night and is carrying out the second day of his state visit to China this Friday, was received with honors by Xi at the Great Hall of the People before the meeting.
During the meeting, which lasted about 50 minutes, Xi assured that China and Brazil “are two of the big developing countries and two important emerging markets. Our relationships are stable and constantly developing.”
“We have common interests and China will give priority to our friendly relations. This is a win-win relationship, and China’s opening up will bring opportunities for all,” Xi said at the start of the meeting.
China seeks a “new development paradigm”
The president added that the Asian country seeks “the creation of a new development paradigm” and mentioned the Global Security Initiative, a project announced by Xi in April 2022 and that opposes the use of sanctions on the international stage.
For his part, Lula assured at the beginning of his speech that his government wishes to work so that relations between China and Brazil “are not solely of commercial interest.”
“We want it to go beyond the commercial and to be deep, strong,” Lula said, adding that he hopes it will understand other sectors such as climate change, the use of clean energy, technology or making efforts to meet the objectives of the UN 2030 Agenda.
A relationship without prejudice
During his stay in China, Lula visited yesterday a research and development (R&D) center of the Chinese technology Huawei, for years in the eye of the hurricane due to the sanctions imposed by the United States, which considers it a danger to its security. national.
“The visit to Huawei is a demonstration that we want to tell the world that we are not prejudiced in our relationship with China,” he added.
Next, Lula and Xi presided over the signing of 14 agreements to strengthen ties in the commercial area, phytosanitary protocols, technology, development, energy transition and other areas of collaboration within the framework of the bilateral strategic association.
Among the commitments signed, the establishment of a direct operation of commercial transactions between Brazil and China in yuan stands out, “without the need for dollarization”, as well as the construction of the sixth satellite manufactured between both nations, CBERS-6, which will monitor biomass of the Amazon jungle, according to the Presidency of Brazil.

Before his meeting with Xi, Lula held meetings with Prime Minister Li Qiang and the Chairman of China’s National People’s Congress (Legislative), Zhao Leji, and laid a wreath at the Monument of the People’s Heroes. , in Tiananmen Square.
On the local morning of Friday, the South American leader also held a meeting with Zhang Zhigang, the president of the state operator of the Chinese electrical system, State Grid, a company that has invested heavily in the Brazilian electrical infrastructure in recent years.

During his visit, the Brazilian leader will also take part in the inauguration ceremony of his successor in office between 2011 and 2016 and political ally, Dilma Rousseff, as the new head of the BRICS development bank, the forum that the country integrates together with Russia, India, China and South Africa.
