Barcelona (EFE).- Rafael Nadal will not play the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell-Conde de Godó Trophy next week as he continues his recovery process from the injury that occurred at the Australian Open, as confirmed this Friday by the player himself and the organization of the tournament
Nadal’s withdrawal leaves the tournament without its main star, since the Spaniard has the record of titles in Godó (he has won 12 times in 16 participations) and the central court of the RCT Barcelona-1899 bears his name.
“Barcelona is a tournament that is special to me, because it is my adopted club and because playing at home is special. I am still not ready and I am therefore continuing my preparation process for the return to competition, ”Nadal declared about his absence in the draw.
For his part, David Ferrer, sports director of the tournament, lamented the loss of the former number one in the world: “It’s a shame not to be able to count on Rafa. He is a player we love very much and, faced with a situation like this, we can only send him a lot of encouragement and wish him a speedy recovery.”
