Mérida, Apr 13 (EFE).- A total of 887,150 citizens are called to the polls in Extremadura in the next regional elections on May 28, 18,100 less than in the previous electoral process of 2019.
The General Secretary of the Ministry of Finance and Public Administration, María Ascensión Murillo, as the person in charge of organizing this process, has reported on it at a press conference and has provided data from the census and polling stations, as well as the portal to provide information launched by the Junta de Extremadura.

Murillo has attributed the decrease in the electoral census to the process of decrease in its population living in the autonomous community, aggravated in recent years by increased mortality in the pandemic.
Although the electoral census decreases, the total number of polling stations to be set up rises from 1,411 to 1,417, since there are three more in Mérida, they go from 70 to 73; and in Fregenal de la Sierra it goes from 7 to 6.
On the other hand, in Cáceres capital they go from 102 to 105; in Plasencia, from 43 to 45; in Navalmoral de la Mata, from 17 to 16 and in Zorita, from 2 to 1, according to the changes specified by Murillo.
Regarding the census for the next regional elections, 548,997 voters belong to the province of Badajoz and 338,153 to that of Cáceres.
In addition, 858,342 correspond to people residing in the autonomous community and 28,808 belong to the voter census of absent residents (CERA).
New voters and Extremadurans abroad
Likewise, of the total of the global census, 40,910 are new voters who have turned 18, 26,627 in the province of Badajoz and 14,283 in that of Cáceres.
The General Secretary of the Ministry of Finance and Public Administration has exposed the approved modifications regarding the so-called requested vote, of voters residing abroad, who will no longer have to request the vote, but will receive the documentation ex officio at their home .
As he has specified, there are citizens from Extremadura residing in more than 150 countries of the world on four continents and he has specified that the largest group is in Germany, although there is also a significant group in Australia.
Ascensión Murillo has explained, on the other hand, that the organization budget for the next regional elections and in the ELM, as stated in the regional accounts for 2023, is 2.5 million euros.
