Santander (EFE).- The opening of the Lebaniego Jubilee Year to be held this coming Sunday, April 16, will be experienced throughout Spain thanks to ONCE, which is going to distribute 5.5 million coupons illustrated with an image of the Monastery of Santo Toribio de Liébana for that day’s draw.
The Minister of Tourism, Javier López Marcano, and the territorial delegate of ONCE, Óscar Pérez, have presented this special coupon that will take “a little piece” of Cantabria to every corner of Spain thanks to the more than 16,000 vendors of the National Organization of blind.
Both have agreed that this appointment represents an “opportunity” for Cantabria and have valued the multiplier effect that the coupon has, thanks to its distribution throughout Spain with a social purpose.
“In our coupons we like to draw beautiful motifs that serve to spread the word about the places and people throughout Spain”, Pérez pointed out, who added that the objective of ONCE is to “return” to Spanish society part of its solidarity for years .
The head of Tourism has underlined the involvement of this organization in social, cultural and sports causes, and recalled that this is not the first collaboration with the Government of Cantabria, which he trusts will not be the last.
López Marcano thanked ONCE for allowing the regional Executive to participate in choosing the image that illustrates this coupon, on a day that will open a year “full of events and experiences”, he remarked.
“Five and a half million people are going to talk about Cantabria”, the counselor has claimed and has encouraged a coupon to run out that he hopes will “play in Cantabria or a pilgrim”.
150 concerts and 400 shows
The British band Muse, Joaquín Sabina, Alejandro Sanz or Quevedo will be some of the protagonists of the beginning of the Lebaniego Jubilee Year, which in its first semester will bring 150 concerts and more than 400 shows of various kinds to Cantabria.
Other names of music such as Manuel Carrasco, Marea, the Lebanese violinist Ara Malikian, -with a participatory concert on the eve of the start of this religious festival- José Mercé, Iván Ferreiro, the Italian Andrea Bocelli, Mikel Erentxun, Pablo Lopez, Melendi or the show “God save the Queen” will also stop in Cantabria on the occasion of the Lebaniego Year.
The programming of the first part of the jubilee celebration will offer a wide musical program that will allow you to enjoy several national and international tours live in 2023, with genres ranging from pop to rock, indie, urban music or flamenco .
The British Muse will make, within their international tour, a single stop in Spain, and it will be at Los Campos de Sport de El Sardinero, on July 4, in a concert with some 20,000 tickets available, whose sale will start on January 31 at at 12:00 in the morning on Livenation.es and Ticketmaster.
On April 22, Andrea Bocelli and the Andrés Segovia Chamber Orchestra will perform under the stars of the sky of Santo Toribio, in the Monastery that houses the Lignum Crucis, which will be the setting chosen for the Italian tenor to perform well-known classical music themes and of the pop genre in front of some 3,500 people.
A week later, on April 29 and 30, Torrelavega will enjoy the international company Dies Festus Xarxa Teatre, in collaboration with the Municipal Band of Torrrelavega, the Choir and the Agrupación de Danzas de Tanos.
Groupe F, the same company that recently organized the opening show of the World Cup in Qatar, will hold a nautical show accompanied by drones and fireworks on May 6, created specifically for the celebration of the opening of the Lebaniego Jubilee Year in Santander Bay.

A Hot Air Balloon Festival that aims to be a “reference and unique event in the north of Spain”, will take Comillas as its base point, for three days, to welcome balloons from all over the world.
The violinist Ara Malikian will act as the pilgrim artist who will guide the public from Santo Toribio to the Torre del Infantado de Potes, in a tour accompanied by candles and led lights that will illuminate this pilgrimage show that will reach the top of the Torre del Infantado to put the finishing touch to this ceremonial event that celebrates the opening of the Puerta del Perdón.
Quevedo’s concert will be on July 10 in Torrelavega and Alejandro Sanz’s on July 29, with no confirmed venue, as is the case with Sabina’s, whose date is still unknown.
Many other novelties will soon be added to the artists and groups confirmed so far, with new additions and the official presentation of the posters for various festivals in the autonomous community, as well as cultural and sporting events and congresses throughout the territory of Cantabria.
In addition, the Corpus Christi Carpet Makers Association of Ponteareas, a Galician town, will also participate in the Opening Day of the Gate of Forgiveness.
These artisans will carry out a particular floral offering, making a flower carpet, like those made in Ponteareas on the first day of the seventy-fourth Lebaniego Jubilee Year, which will consist of a flower carpet with the stamp of the Lignum Crucis.
