Madrid (EFE) April 3 after suffering a blackout while playing with his children.
“I arrived at the emergency room with very little oxygen saturation in my blood, I was tired,” the dancer recounted at the gates of the hospital.
“It was something unexpected, something surreal, I thought I had the flu and I almost died”, assured the choreographer, who stresses that “the most important thing is that we are here”.
“They must have done more than twenty tests on me, I have suffered a rather serious pulmonology,” said the dancer, who points out that the doctors have diagnosed that he has been asthmatic since he was a child. “And coincidentally, dancing has been my antidote, it has saved me.”
“I have not been discharged definitively, I still have tests, the doctors are finding out what I have,” added the dancer.
Luckily, “I have not smoked in my life, I am an elite athlete, I have hardly drunk alcohol, a glass of wine at a meal.”
Joaquín Cortés: “It has been very serious, a tremendous scare”
“It has been very serious, a tremendous scare, but there is no harm that does not come for good, they have done a complete MOT on me and the doctors have told me that I have a biological age of 20 years,” Cortes said.
“I’m not cured yet, I’m better. Dancing has saved me and will continue to save me; I hope to last a few more years and take Spanish culture around the world”, stressed the dancer with 42 years of experience.
“The doctors have told me that I am a physical marvel,” adds Cortés, who has thanked all the hospital staff for their work and the treatment he has received. “We have wonderful public health, many countries envy us.”
Calmly, but without pause, Cortés will resume activity. “I can’t do the beast, I have to be quiet for a couple of weeks to recover my lungs one hundred percent.”
In mid-July a world tour begins in New York. “I take it with a sense of humor, I could be dead, I have been born again”, the artist concludes that he wants to resume his activity to go on stage with his show “Esencia”.
