Logroño, Apr 9 (EFE).- The events of Holy Week have ended this Easter Sunday with the most unique and emotional procession in the capital of La Rioja, which starts from the cemetery, crosses the stone bridge and arrives at one of the schools located in the Old Town of the city.
It is the procession of the Holy Risen Christ, organized by the brotherhood of the Entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, and which is preceded by a massive mass in the Logroño cemetery.
Resurrection Sunday supposes the victory of Christ over death, on the third day of having lost his life on the cross; but it is also a day of remembrance for all the deceased “and that is why this procession is so special, because it begins with an evocation of the members of the brotherhood who are no longer there and the people who have left us this year.”
This is how the Elder Brother of this brotherhood, Juan José Martín, explained it to EFE, who remembers how more than four decades ago they started in this last procession from the cemetery, something that “is not very common” in Spanish processions.
In addition, they have the added difficulty that the old stone door of the cemetery barely allows the image of Christ to pass through “and you almost have to remove it at ground level” something that thirty brothers do by hand.
As soon as you pass the door, the image passes to the shoulders of the brothers and begins the journey over the stone bridge to the surprise of the Sunday “walkers” through this busy area of Logroño.
The Brotherhood of the Entry of Jesus into Jerusalem thus has the “honor” of opening and closing Holy Week in Logroño, since with another of its images, “La borriquilla”, it tours the Old Town on Palm Sunday.
They also take to the streets on Holy Monday and Good Friday, although that occasion is part of the Magna procession of Logroño, together with the rest of the brotherhoods.
“It is not that it is a privilege to start and end Holy Week, all the processions are important, although it must be recognized that Easter Sunday is something special, it is the day when, as a brother, you can rest”, he details. the older brother.
