Santander (EFE).- The search for the missing crew member of the fishing vessel Vilaboa Uno reaches its fifth day this Friday, awaiting the Maritime Rescue robot capable of acting in difficult conditions of sea and current, which may take “several days” to arrive.
The robot will join the search efforts after a first remote-controlled underwater vehicle of the Civil Guard was not able, despite hitting bottom 130 meters in the area of the sinking, to find the sunken ship, inside which it is believed that Walter Ferreiro could be there, the person who disappeared in the shipwreck that claimed the lives of two other fishermen.
As of this Thursday, the ship Don Inda is being prepared in the port of Ferrol (A Coruña), which will embark the Rov Comanche de Salvamento Marítimo, which has to be calibrated, tested and installed on board the ship itself, a process that “can take several days ” and to which must be added the transfer by sea to Santander, as reported by the Government Delegation in Cantabria.
In addition to the robotic semi-submersible of the Civil Guard, these days they are working in the area to find the sailor the Salvamar Deneb, the María de Maetzu ship -which transports the robot-, the Helimer helicopter and the Sasemar 102 plane, the Río Aller patrol boat, and the helicopter and the fine-wing aircraft of the Civil Guard.
The family of the missing sailor, of Peruvian origin, has demanded that the authorities “do not cease” in their search. “Look for my father, don’t stop looking for him: do what you can,” his son pleaded in statements to journalists.
The Vilaboa Uno sank at dawn this Monday with ten crew members, seven of whom were rescued by boats that were in the area, after notifying the Maritime Rescue that it had a leak in the hull and was sinking.
The shipwreck claimed, due to hypothermia, the life of a Santander sailor, whom the fishing district fired this Thursday with a funeral, and that of another from Ghana, whose family is being sought in that country through the Embassy.
One of the seven rescued crew members was also seriously injured due to hypothermia, who was transferred to the Valdecilla Hospital and was discharged that same Monday. The other six fishermen received psychological care.
