Trump is scheduled to appear shortly after 2 p.m. (local time) before Judge Juan Manuel Merchan, who will read him the charges, which add up to a total of 33, according to leaked information.
Small groups of pro-Trump or anti-Trump protesters were also in the vicinity, after responding to separate calls to be present in Collect Park, next to the courts.
The Police had separated the two groups with a fence that kept them two meters away from each other, and through the fence they were scolding each other -“He is the best president” or “Let them lock him up!”- but all this in a civilized atmosphere and without the slightest hint of aggressiveness or violence.
The pro-Trumps have been summoned by the Republican congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene for several days, and it is difficult to know how many people will be able to attend the appointment, but in the previous days the rallies favorable to the former president have barely gathered dozens of people, either in New York, Miami or Washington.
Trump supporters appeared dressed in numerous patriotic symbols or superhero costumes, while his adversaries have brought saucepans and kitchen utensils with the intention of silencing them for the duration of the rally.
New York, prepared for the reactions
Yesterday, Mayor Eric Adams warned against possible excesses by Trump supporters: “We will not tolerate violence or vandalism of any kind,” he said, and warned that the Police will arrest anyone who does so, “no matter who you are.”
Adams specifically quoted Congresswoman Taylor Greene, a known Trumpist “for spreading misinformation and hate speech,” and warned her: “While you’re in town, be on your best behavior.”
In the hours before the court appearance, Trump is apparently locked up in the skyscraper that bears his name -Trump Tower-, in the middle of New York’s Fifth Avenue, the tourist heart of the city where he lived his childhood and youth.
Trump arrived at his New York fiefdom – which is both a luxury hotel and a shopping center – yesterday afternoon and has not been seen out of there since.
The Police have not blocked traffic on the avenue, but have deployed hundreds of meters of metal fencing to prevent the parking of any vehicle in the vicinity, taken by journalists from hundreds of media from around the world who were already broadcasting their reports this morning .
