Huelva (EFE).- A man was arrested this morning by Civil Guard agents in the Huelva town of Palos de la Frontera after fatally stabbing a woman with whom he had a romantic relationship in the back.
The Government Delegation against Gender Violence has confirmed the sexist nature of the murder, bringing the number of women murdered by their partners or ex-partners so far this year to 12 and to 1,196 since 2003.
The events, as reported to EFE by the mayor of the town, Carmelo Romero, occurred shortly after one o’clock in the morning on a seasonal farm in the area known as Las Arenillas, where agents of the Local Police of Palos de The Border and the Civil Guard have found the woman, of Romanian origin, “with a dagger stuck in her back.”
Both the victim and the attacker, a native of Mali, worked collecting red berries, according to the mayor, who explained that the woman’s companions have said that he “wanted them both to live together and she refused, which motivated to harass her to get her to agree, to the point that this Tuesday she planned to go to the Civil Guard to denounce it.
The attacker and the victim would have put an end to a sentimental relationship of about three years ago a few months ago.
Stabbing alert call
The Local Police, Romero continued, received a call at 1:10 a.m. warning of the stabbing of a person on a farm in Las Arenillas, giving notice to the Civil Guard to go to the place.
Once there, the agents found “a woman of Romanian nationality with a dagger stuck in her back, alerting the emergency health services who, upon arrival, could only certify her death,” the mayor detailed.
From the first investigations carried out by the agents at the scene, collecting testimonies from the victim’s companions, “it follows that the perpetrator of the death is a Malian citizen who had a relationship with the deceased.”
After the alleged perpetrator of the events was identified, the Civil Guard has located, arrested and transferred to police stations where he remains.
The victim was not in the protection program for victims of gender violence (VioGén). As reported by the Government Delegation in Andalusia, the Civil Guard is investigating the facts, taking statements from people around the victim, 34, and the murderer, 30.
12 women murdered so far this year
