Palma, Apr 3 (EFE).- The Spanish windsurfer Nacho Baltasar occupies the thirteenth position in the iQFOil class classification, the only one that was able to complete a test this Monday and that dominates the powerful French fleet at the start of the Olympic sail of the Princess Sofia Mallorca Trophy by Iberostar, which is held in the bay of Palma.
The weather complicated the opening day of the prestigious regatta for the 597 Olympic boats cited in the Balearic capital.
Despite numerous attempts, only the iQFOiL Men class was able to complete a test due to unstable winds caused by squalls.
The iQFOiL Men planned on the “foils” to complete one of the four tests they had on the program to release their lockers.
With very difficult weather conditions, the young Mallorcan Nacho Baltasar managed to enter fifth to finally situate himself in thirteenth place in a provisional classification dominated by the French representatives.
Back on land, Baltasar admitted that he was very happy with his performance: “The truth is that everything has aligned in my favor: I have done what I had to do at the right time. Little wind like today in the bay of Palma is favorable to me, because I’m still not at my ideal weight”, he explained.
The rest of the classes that competed on this first day (iQFOiL Women, 470 Mixed, ILCA 7 and ILCA 6) tried without success.
In ILCA 7, the Yellow group was able to finish a test, but the score did not go up on the scoreboard because the other two groups did not complete the heat.
The second day of competition will convene this Tuesday in the water to all participating classes.
In addition to the 470 Mixed, ILCA 6 and 7 and iQFOiL Men and Women, who will continue to compete, the 49er and 49er FX, the Nacra 17 and the Formula Kite Women and Men will race.
The 976 boats and almost 1,300 sailors of 66 nationalities competing for the 52nd Princess Sofia Mallorca Trophy will fill the bay of Palma.
