Oviedo (EFE).- The forest fires that have multiplied in recent days in Asturias, with more than a hundred simultaneous outbreaks, reached Oviedo last night when the flames reached Mount Naranco, where last night they had to to be evicted 65 people from the nuclei of Cuyences and Fitoria.
This morning the flames and the intense smoke that come out of this mountain, at the foot of which is the Oviedo neighborhood of Ciudad Naranco, are still visible from a good part of the city.
The flames have devastated part of the mountain from mid-height to the top, which is crowned by the monument to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
Diez the sweet simultaneous outbreaks
After visiting the area, the mayor of Oviedo, Alfredo Canteli, has pointed out that the fire has been produced by the effect of ten or twelve simultaneous sources that ignited around 2:00 in the morning and that have had a greater impact on the top of the mountain .
In addition, it has indicated that small bulbs that seemed to have been controlled were igniting again due to the strong wind that is hindering some of the extinction tasks that some 45 firefighters, Local Police and Civil Protection have been working from early in the morning.
“The people, who have collaborated in the eviction, have had a very bad time in the face of some terrifying fires. All the houses have been saved except one small one. There are heartless people who do these things”, lamented Canteli.
The one in Oviedo is one of the 116 simultaneous outbreaks that this morning were recorded throughout the Asturian geography, and that particularly harshly affect the western area, where yesterday 174 people from 39 homes had to be evacuated.
In addition, the A-8 motorway and the N-634 highway remain cut off between Asturias and Galicia, at the height of the Valdés council, one of the most affected by the flames. EFE
