Santiago de Compostela, Mar 30 (EFE) It is already in the summer.
This has been explained by the president of the Xunta, Alfonso Rueda, in his appearance after the weekly meeting of the Galician Government, where he has verified that there has been an “important” fire these days, such as the one in Baleira that has burned 1,400 hectares, and others in the province of Lugo in “very complicated wind conditions”.
For this reason, he has admitted that the fires at this time of year “is a possibility that is there” for which he has called for “maximum prudence” and has recalled that the Xunta has prohibited the burning of agricultural and forestry remains during these days.
Rueda has said that the causes of these fires are being investigated, both in Baleira and in Alfoz and Viveiro, as well as in Taboada, for which reason the Galician government “does not take anything for granted” and will continue to work as it has done all this winter in the tasks of prevention and cleaning and clearing.
“There is still a lot to do, but a lot has also been done,” said Rueda, who has assured that the Xunta will continue working to “have the firefighting device fully prepared for when the high fire season arrives.”
At the press conference, he also referred to the project for a new comprehensive law to fight forest fires -announced for last year- which is “taking steps” with the expectation of having a text in the coming months without specifying when can enter Parliament for processing. EFE
