Madrid (EFE).- The president of the Canary Islands and general secretary of the PSOE in the islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, has ruled out this Wednesday that the “Mediator case” negatively affects his party in the regional elections on May 28, since , as he has stated, the citizens will value the action of his Government during the four years of his mandate.
“Citizens know how to differentiate things, who acts, who allows it and they also know who is honest and honest, as are the majority of civil servants, public managers or businessmen”, he stated during an informative breakfast in Madrid.
According to Torres, the “stability” of his government and having known how to “separate differences to continue together” has been “key” and will be something that the Canaries will value at the polls, although he has admitted that he would like the scandal of the Mediator case, involving the socialist party, would never have taken place.
In this sense, he has stressed that, in his opinion, his political formation acted immediately, since “in eight hours” the people involved were suspended from militancy and, that same day, the main defendant, the socialist deputy Juan Bernardo Fuentes Curbelo, resigned.
“I think we can be singled out if we don’t act, but we did it forcefully in the face of an individual, embarrassing, reprehensible and unacceptable situation in public office that has to be exemplary,” he indicated.
Regarding the motion of censure promoted by Vox against the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, the President of the Canary Islands has affirmed that it is “an absolute error” and an absurdity typical of surrealism.
“What happened yesterday was not a motion of censure or for it to prosper and not even to claim an alternative,” he assured.
For Torres, the fact that a party with a right-wing ideology presents someone who comes from the left as a candidate for president of the Government is a “political oxymoron” that has turned the motion into “a farce” and “something unfortunate” that misrepresents a “democratic” and “legitimate” tool.
Likewise, he has asserted that the Popular Party should be “showing its face”, saying “what it thinks” and voting “clearly” instead of abstaining.
“You have to learn from history so as not to repeat it again. I do not think that this motion positively affects politics, because the Congress of Deputies is something very serious, ”she concluded. EFE
