Mexico City, Mar 13 (EFE).- Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said that his country is safer to travel than the United States, after the State Department issued alerts to Americans not to visit some mexican cities.
“Mexico is safer than the United States, and there is no problem to travel through Mexico safely, but US citizens also know that and our countrymen who are there know it, they are well informed,” said the president during his speech. morning press conference
The president thus referred to the alerts issued by the US State Department about not traveling to six Mexican states, especially after the kidnapping of four Americans, in which two of them died, in the border city of Matamoros , Tamaulipas, a few days ago.
The kidnapping occurred in the midst of a wave of violence in Tamaulipas, a state that is the scene of a dispute between drug cartels and that the United States classifies at level 4 in its security alert, which is why its citizens are advised against traveling there.
López Obrador denied that Mexico is an unsafe country and even said that in these years more Americans are coming to live in Mexico City.
He also affirmed that the alerts are “a campaign” against Mexico and accused the “conservative” politicians of the United States of not wanting the country to continue transforming.
“Those conservative politicians dominate, that is a problem that you have, the media. Most of the information media in the United States are at the service of vested interest groups in that country, they are under the control of economic and political groups,” he said.
He pointed out that these warnings not to travel to Mexico is a “political” matter and assured that what they want to create is a perception of insecurity “to say: the populist, communist, caudillo, messianic government of López Obrador does not work.”
“No, it’s not like that,” he stressed.
The president said that in the United States there is no talk of drug cartels and joked about its distribution in the country “it is an invisible network, there are no drug traffickers there. How does the drug reach the young man? Who sells it? Or is it just here, ”he questioned.
