Pamplona (EFE).- The activity of the public company NICDO generated 57.5 million euros last year in Navarra and 805 full-time jobs. Within it are included the Arena Pavilion, Baluarte, the Planetarium, the Film Library and the Belagua Nordic ski center.
These data come from a study of economic and social impact, which also highlights that for every euro invested there is a return of 1.66.
This is the result of “a lot of effort”, said the president of the Public Business Corporation and Minister of Economy and Finance, Elma Saiz, at the presentation of the report. In this sense, she has underlined the role of NICDO to “attract innovation and structure” the community, to “generate a positive impact” in it from its activity around culture, sports, leisure and meeting tourism. . With this, she has added, the image of Navarra is “modernized and reinforced” also abroad.
A positive social impact
In this same sense, the president of NICDO and Minister of Culture and Sports, Rebaca Esnaola, has valued the contribution of NICDO to the GDP of the Foral Community, 0.29% (49.3 million). To this she has added the creation of direct and indirect employment (event companies or sectors such as accommodation, restaurants, commerce, entertainment and transport).
But Esnaola has also pointed out the equally positive social impact of this public partnership by improving the mental health of the public and participants in its shows; increase participation and socialization; increase critical capacity, knowledge, creativity or environmental awareness; and to “grow the Navarra brand”.

The study reflects that in 2022 the spaces managed by NICDO received 484,980 visitors spread over the 1,018 events they hosted. With them, income for the public administration of just over 6 million euros was generated in taxes such as personal income tax or Social Security contributions, among other concepts.
Regarding the profile of the public, the report points out that 231,5765 were people residing in Navarra and 162,637 from outside, and specifies that the latter spent an average of 117.56 euros in the case of foreigners and 38.5 among visitors from other communities.
Continuous improvement of results
Some figures that, according to the managing director of NICDO, Ramón Urdiain, are the result of the real data and the estimates made by the consultants, in this case “too restrained”. And it is that, as he has indicated, they have not taken into account, for example, the impact of the activity of the Navarra Film Commission or events organized by NICDO such as the soccer match in El Sadar between the Spanish and American women’s teams.
Urdian has also referred to the improvement of the economic results of the public company itself. In 2022 it had revenue of 12.9 million euros, 41% more than in the previous year and 34% more than in 2019, in the pre-pandemic. Lastly, he referred to the clients with which NICDO works, which have gone from 606 in 2021 to 741 in the last year, as well as the Navarrese suppliers with which it operates, 725 companies out of the 1,169 it has in total.
