Puerto del Rosario (Fuerteventura) (EFE).- The Amazon Prime platform has requested permission to film part of the second season of the series “Los anillos de poder” in Fuerteventura, one of its biggest bets in recent years, as confirmed this Friday the president of the Island Council, Sergio Lloret.
These days, photos published by tourists have come to light on social networks indicating that the series could also be filming in Tenerife, specifically in the Teide National Park (season 1 ends with the eruption of a volcano in the “ Tierras del Sur”), but in that case the authorities of that island have declined to make any comment on the matter.
Despite the secrecy with which some of these shoots are usually carried out, Sergio Lloret has made public the request for permits to film in Fuerteventura in a statement in which he reproaches the Urban Planning area of the Pájara City Council for not yet being granted, due to a bureaucratic delay.
The president of the Island Corporation has assured that he is in contact with the producer and has “no official knowledge that he has withdrawn, because the file is still pending.”
According to Lloret, those responsible for the Amazon Prime series requested the permits for the first time on December 2, 2022, in a first contribution of documentation that had to be completed since the Environment considered that important content was missing.
Finally, on January 11, 2023, the complete documentation entered the Cabildo so that the entity can pronounce itself and on January 20, the Environmental Service issued a report with recommendations and corrections on the Natural Area, requesting the Pájara City Council to carry out a simplified environmental evaluation “in order to speed up the file as quickly as possible, taking into account the peculiarities and protection needs of our spaces,” he details.
However, he recounts, a month later “the production company contacted me with concern, because they had not received a response, so I had to speak with Pedro Armas, the mayor of Pájara, who at that time I know took over the reins.”
“The Cabildo has done what it had to do in the time and deadlines with what they have asked of us”, because “they asked us for absolute discretion with the series, and with that discretion and prudence we have acted,” he adds.
“The Rings of Power” is based on the universe of stories born from the imagination of the British writer JRR Tolkien.
Although some of its characters are common (basically elves, with millennial lives in Tolkien’s stories), the fiction takes place thousands of years before “The Hobbit” and the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy of books, also taken to the movies EFE
