Oviedo (EFE).- The Senda del Oso, a 30-kilometre route that links Proaza, Santo Adriano, Quirós and Teverga, will receive an investment of 306,000 euros to improve the signage, pavement, furniture and railings of the route.
This was stated this Monday by the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Graciela Blanco, and the General Director of the Natural Environment and Rural Planning, David Villar, who presented the actions planned for this year at the Casa del Oso de Proaza, which will complete an investment in the entire legislature of around 800,000 euros.
Tourism will allocate 306,651 euros from European Next Generation funds to the conservation of the route, within the Plan for Hiking and Cycling Routes, endowed with 2.5 million and integrated into the cohesion actions of the Territorial Plan 2021.
The funds will make it possible to condition the pavement and the firm of the route of this route inaugurated in 1996, as well as to repair and install new railings and furniture.
The project also contemplates the improvement of signaling along the entire route and the cleaning, clearing and drainage of rainwater at some points.
The projected actions represent a continuation of those started in 2020 and focus on the replacement of perimeter railings in areas that have deficiencies and on the substitution of the classic wooden ones for others with more durable and safer metal profiles, which evoke the layout of the railway.
Of the more than 20 kilometers of fencing installed in different sections of the Senda del Oso, action will be taken on those with the greatest deterioration, and new protection elements will also be placed on slopes and tunnels, such as breakwaters and retaining meshes, as well as new points of lighting.
The Principality has recalled that the maintenance of the route requires a significant effort, due to the special weather conditions and its long route.
The development of the actions will be made compatible with the public use of the space, one of the most visited itineraries in Asturias and a key element of the socioeconomic development of the Trubia valley. EFE
