Madrid (EFE) If both parties do not reach an agreement beforehand, Podemos will vote against taking the initiative into consideration, which puts it at odds with the main government party.
The PP has announced that it will support this taking into consideration this Tuesday and Vox will also vote in favor. If they reach the vote with these positions, the photograph would be very uncomfortable for the PSOE, even more so when International Women’s Day is celebrated on Wednesday, to which the two partners of the coalition Executive arrive facing each other.
The PSOE asks Podemos to recapacite its position
The socialist spokesperson, Pilar Alegría, has asked Podemos this Monday to “reconsider its position” of voting against taking the reform into consideration and has demanded “prudence and respect” from the former vice president of the Government Pablo Iglesias for his warnings about the 8-M.
Specifically, Iglesias notified the socialist wing of the Government in an act on Sunday by saying that “let’s see what they find” during the demonstration on March 8 on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
“I would like greater prudence and respect, especially when whoever issues these words has had important responsibilities within the Government,” Alegría said about Iglesias during a press conference after the Federal Executive of the party in which the Secretary for Equality accompanied him. of the PSOE, Andrea Fernández.
“I would also ask Podemos to reconsider their position, we want to improve our law and avoid future reductions in sentences,” said Alegría, who nevertheless does not give up the possibility of reaching an agreement with the formation at the head of the Ministry of Equality, since he has said that “we must never take anything for impossible”.
Sources from the Federal Executive of the PSOE acknowledge that it would be desirable for said agreement to be reached but rule out that there is a break with the coalition government if it is not the case and indicate that, beyond what Unidas Podemos does, it is likely that some parliamentary partners of the Government vote on the side of the socialists with the reform of the law of the only yes is yes.
Podemos makes one last appeal to PSOE to avoid a shameful vote
For its part, Podemos has made this Monday “one last call” to its government partners to “reconsider” and avoid tomorrow in Congress a “shameful” vote together with the PP and Vox in considering the reform of the PSOE to the law of only yes is yes: “it is inconceivable that their votes join those of Mr. Abascal and Mrs. Ayuso.”

In a press conference at the Podemos headquarters, its spokesperson, Alejandra Jacinto, hopes that tomorrow she will not have to see “that photo of shame” with her socialist partners celebrating carrying out the reform with those who have “systematically” opposed any progress of women’s rights, although it is unlikely that the PSOE will back down because they already assume that they will win this vote with the support of PP, Vox, Cs, PNV and PdCat.
Despite the deep gap that the “only yes is yes” law has opened within the coalition government, Jacinto rules out any risk of rupture, just as Pedro Sánchez did on Saturday, because there is an agenda for progress that the two partners share. “It is very serious and although there would be many voices that would be happy that the coalition government broke up, it will continue,” he stressed.
Jacinto has assured that the PSOE has already transferred to Podemos and to public opinion that “they do not want to reach a unanimous agreement to give a feminist response” to sexual assaults, which involves maintaining consent at the center of the Penal Code.
Without a PSOE-Podemos agreement, ERC will not support the reform
For ERC, its deputy general secretary and spokesperson, Marta Vilalta, has warned that if PSOE and Podemos do not agree to the reform of the ‘only yes is yes’ law, the Republicans will not vote in favor, since “it will never be a good law if it is agreed with PP and Vox ”.
At a press conference in Barcelona, Vilalta has stressed precisely the importance of the 8M celebration to “vindicate the rights of all women” and, for this reason, he wanted to send a “clear message to the PSOE”.
“We cannot go back. We will not tolerate rights that we had been gaining being cut again. ERC will not be an accomplice of the patriarchy ”, she has warned. “The PSOE cannot show that it champions feminism and then agree with the most retrograde right on one of the most important laws.”
For Vilalta, “what can happen this week is indecent and an insult to women who suffer or have suffered sexual abuse”, he lamented, since, in his opinion, “a law that ends up being agreed by the PP and Vox will never be a good law”.
The PP offers to “stop the botch” of ‘only yes is yes’, but without “marketing”
In Ávila, the general coordinator of the PP, Elías Bendodo, has maintained this Monday that his party is still open to “stopping the botching” that in his opinion supposes the so-called “law of only yes is yes”, although he has warned that it will not allow the “marketing” between the PSOE and Podemos during the processing of its reform.
During an act of support for the PP candidate for Mayor of Ávila, Alicia García, Bendodo insisted on supporting her group with the aim of “stopping this bleeding”, although he specified that, despite this, “all the sentences will be reviewed”.

In this context, the PSOE and Podemos have dared to “risk what they are going to do tomorrow -Tuesday-“, venturing that the purple “as always, at the last minute, their legs will shake, they will give in and agree to amendments”.
“There the PP is going to be very attentive, because we are not going to accept any type of amendments, nor marketing to modify this norm”, has assured the general coordinator of the PP, who has insisted that his party “reach out to paralyze this bungling and modifying the norm, but not at any price and without allowing marketing between the PSOE and Podemos”.
