Algeciras (Cádiz), (EFE) drug traffickers” with their boats in the Campo de Gibraltar.
This is the patrol boat “Río Flumen”, which was presented this Thursday at the Sotogrande marina, in San Roque (Cádiz), to where it has traveled on a test trip from the facilities of the armed institute in the port of Algeciras, as explained by the authorities.
Colonel Francisco Almansa, head of the Algeciras Command, explained that during this journey they have verified the “great top speed and maneuverability” of the patrol boat, with which “right now we exceed the capacity that drug traffickers have with their tires, that they are much more vulnerable”, while the Civil Guard boat “has a much more stable structure”.
The patrol boat, which almost triples the top speed of those existing up to now, is of Spanish construction, from the Galician firm Aister, and its price is 1,875,000 euros.
A milestone for Spain
Almansa explained that the construction of three more fast patrol boats like this one has been commissioned and that “it was acceptable that the first one arrived here, where the Special Security Plan for Campo de Gibraltar is developed and where drug trafficking is most combated.”
As part of the expansion of the scope of action of said plan, which has 35 million euros for this year, according to the colonel, it is expected that the second patrol boat of these characteristics will be incorporated this summer into the province of Huelva.
For his part, the owner, Javier Rasilla, explained that it is “the fastest police intervention patrol boat in the world today” is in the Campo de Gibraltar and is “a milestone for Spain”.
The “Río Flumen” boat incorporates state-of-the-art “waterjets” propulsion systems that allow it to reach top speeds that had not been reached until now, “of the order of sixty knots”, with two 1,800-horsepower engines each, he adds.
The hull is made of aluminium, one hundred percent recyclable and that “behaves very well in difficult sea conditions”, with the ability to “take sharp turns” and can stop going from top speed to zero in a space of about 36 meters, “two boatlengths”, concludes the owner. EFE
