Justino Sanchón | Rodrigo City (Salamanca) | (EFE).- People in disguise along any street that ends in the main square of Ciudad Rodrigo, thousands of people crowding any area of the center, hundreds of young people, children, adults… it is the beginning of the Carnival of the Bull, a party of National Tourist Interest.
From anywhere in Spain, Portugal, France or China, the area where the first running of the bulls took place and the so-called Toro del Antruejo, where a bull is released, this time ‘Romino’, from the Hermanos cattle ranch Sánchez Herrero, from El Bodón, has been filled with an audience eager for fun, enjoyment, to turn this first day of Carnival into a moment of relief.
At 11 in the morning, the area of Los Praos was full of people from Mirobrigens, foreigners, to enjoy ‘Romino’, who came out strong from the San Pelayo corrals but after falling twice he lost his temper even though he tried to be moved by young and old, without much success.
Runners and suitcases from different countries
There, in Los Praos, runners from Ciudad Rodrigo, from other parts of Spain or Portugal, or young bullfighters with the desire to find a moment of glory met, such as the case of Ignacio Lozano, a young vitalist from Mestanza (Ciudad Real ), who has arrived in the city of Mirobrigo traveling in his “ranchera” in which he has slept last night -he proudly shows the photo-.
Lozano, with his crutch under his arm, reminds anyone who wants to listen that he has been in Mexico, where he has fought several bullfights and others in Spain, with a single objective: “to look for an opportunity that allows me to show that I am a bullfighter, that I am good for this, but knowing that I am free”.
The young man greets one and the other, it is not the first time he has been in Ciudad Rodrigo, and shortly after ‘Romino’ goes through Los Praos, Ignacio Lozano stands there, in front of the bull, who manages to give several passes with his crutch, and he is cooperative with the grooms who run behind, or in front of, the animal.
Meanwhile, thousands of people of all ages avidly observe this first great act of the 2023 Carnivals, like a lady close to 65 years of age, mounted on the talanquera, who shows her bullfighting wisdom complaining that “at bull do not give him air the waiters” that leave him “suffocated”.
Thousands of people come these days to Ciudad Rodrigo
It is Carnival Saturday, the day in which perhaps the most people are seen in the streets of Ciudad Rodrigo, in which every minute that passes from 11 in the morning you can see how hundreds of buses arrive from different parts of Spain, full of young people in costumes, loaded with supermarket bags with food and drink, who are left at the entrance to the town of Mirobrigo. The center is totally full of people while buses keep coming.
And, suddenly, everything stops because the first running of the bulls of this Carnival is going to be held, with bulls from the Los Bayones ranch, which in the Registry area, as always, has experienced moments of tension when one of the bulls stayed behind. lagging.
At the end of this confinement, two injuries have been registered, one of them by a bull horn and another with a strong blow to the head, which has been treated at first in the infirmary of the bullring.
The shooting occurred on Conde de Foxá avenue, when one of the bulls ran into two men. One of them was gored by the bull in the leg and buttock, and the other received a strong blow to the head.
This first confinement has been run with three bulls from Los Bayones and another two from José Cruz’s cattle ranch, which fought in the nocturnal bullfight last night, and, after starting in the bullpens on Duero street, they have lined up in the Registry where the race of the horned ones has been broken again.
The streets of Ciudad Rodrigo have been a veritable hive of fun, where at ten in the morning you could still hear disco music coming from a bar full of young people who were still following the party rhythm of the night.
Comings and goings of friends, families, children, adults, middle-aged. This is the Carnival of Ciudad Rodrigo, a place that, as Juan, a 45-year-old from Navarre, said, “must be visited at least once in your life”, and he has already enjoyed two consecutive editions of these days. EFE
