Madrid (EFE) the second semester of the year.
He will not travel to the 26 countries that make up the EU together with Spain as it is not possible for scheduling reasons, but the intention is that there will be four or five trips like the one this week at a rate of about three capitals in each one, in which will meet with their respective counterparts.
This Thursday he will meet in Vienna with the Austrian chancellor, Karl Nehammer, and then in Zagreb he will meet with the Croatian prime minister, Andrej Plenkovic.
On Friday he will travel to Slovenia to meet with the country’s prime minister, Robert Golob.
Next trips in March and April
There are no dates yet for the following trips, which are intended to be concentrated in March, April and June, because May is more complicated due to the fact that the agenda is more conditioned by the municipal and regional elections in Spain.
But it is already known, while waiting to specify when, that in the next trip he will go to Ireland, Denmark and Finland.
Both on this week’s trip and on those he will make soon, Sánchez intends to listen to the positions of the partners on issues that are on the EU agenda and, in particular, those that aspire to agree before the next European elections May 2024.
Among those pending negotiations are those whose objective is to achieve a Migration and Asylum Pact, a goal for which the Spanish Government assumes that the path that remains to be traveled is quite complicated.
Spanish Presidency of the European Union
Sánchez wants to play a role as a promoter of this and other issues that are pending, such as the strengthening of the strategic autonomy of the European Union.
During the Spanish presidency there will be a summit of leaders in Granada (southern Spain) in October, in which it is intended to advance in that autonomy, and the day before the Twenty-seven will meet with the European countries that are not part of the EU.
To this will be added an EU-Latin America and Caribbean summit in Brussels in July, the celebration of which is already considered a success by the Government of Spain after almost eight years without being convened.
Sánchez will talk about all of this on his tour, in which the energy market will also be very present and how to continue helping Ukraine while waiting for the evolution of the situation caused by the Russian invasion.
