Lugo, Feb 16 (EFE).- Dozens of people gathered this afternoon in front of the Government Sub-delegation in Lugo to protest against the approval of the so-called ‘only yes is yes’ Law, the application of which favored a reduction in the prison sentence to which the so-called ‘portal rapist’ was sentenced, a sexual offender convicted of raping an 18-year-old girl in the city and trying to do it with another.
The ‘portal violator’ was released this Tuesday from the Picassent prison (Valencia) by benefiting from a two-year reduction in the sentence imposed at the time by the Provincial Court of Lugo, something that “sounds almost laughable, if it were not so serious,” the president of Women in Freedom, Mary Fraga, told EFE during this rally.
“I cannot understand that a female minister has created and consented to such a law, which puts the victims before the aggressor. This is nonsense,” she added.
“The trigger for us being here today is the release of this sexual offender, this rapist from Augas Férreas. We cannot consent that we cannot leave safely through Lugo, through our city and through our province. We don’t want to feel unprotected, having to watch our backs. We want to feel free and not live in fear. That our rights as women be respected”, added Mary Fraga.
Along the same lines, he insisted that “politicians have to understand the consequences of the decisions they can make”, because the “release of more and more aggressors, more and more rapists, more and more pedophiles” is taking place. , which threaten our freedom and our security”.
“Now we ask them to rectify. It is very simple. Rectify, apologize to the victims and ask for their collaboration and that of all women, that we are the ones who can transmit the feeling of the street and what our fear is ”, she concluded.
For her part, Jasone Lorenzo, from the Mujeres en Igualdad de Lugo association, which also participated in this rally, demanded “the repeal or modification” of the Law, but also called for “responsibilities” for “sentence reductions” for sex offenders. , since “there is no turning back”.
“We feel that our rights and freedoms, as women, have been violated. That they apologize to the victims, and to women in general, for having made this law. They knew this was going to happen, from all the reports they had. That they modify it now, that they do not wait ”, he insisted
“We are here for all cases, but especially this one, which touches us here next door. He has already been released. We know that he is on the street, but we don’t know where he is, ”lamented Jasone.
Numerous representatives of the Popular Party of Lugo joined the concentration.
