Lima (EFE).- The leader of the Peruvian political party Fuerza Popular, Keiko Fujimori, ratified her position in favor of an electoral advance to get out of the political and social crisis that her country is experiencing, but ruled out participating as a presidential candidate to avoid being ” an excuse for the reds ».
During a meeting held on Sunday with militants and leaders of her party in the northern region of Piura, the three-time presidential candidate affirmed that Peru deserves to go to an early general election to find a way out of its tense situation, according to a video broadcast on their social networks.
He also asserted that, “having every possibility of being a candidate,” he believes that he should “wait.”
“I am not going to be one more factor, or an excuse for the reds, so that they continue to blame me (for the political crisis), no gentlemen,” he said.
Later, through his official Twitter account, Fujimori reiterated his position regarding the electoral advance and the participation of Fuerza Popular in the next contest, in which, he insisted, he will not be a candidate for the Presidency.
Fuerza Popular was one of the parties that presented one of the four legislative proposals for electoral advancement rejected by Congress in recent weeks.
The advancement of elections is one of the main demands of the anti-government protests that began two months ago in various parts of the country and in which 70 people have died, according to various sources.
Fujimori’s multiple previous aspirations
The daughter and political heir of former President Alberto Fujimori (1990-2000) lived in 2021 his third consecutive defeat in a presidential election in which the rural school teacher Pedro Castillo (2021-2022) won.
In those elections, Fujimori not only saw his presidential ambitions frustrated once again, but also the possibility of temporarily avoiding a tax charge of more than 30 years in prison and the option of releasing his father, who is serving a 25-year prison sentence for crimes against humanity.
In 2011 she was surpassed at the polls by the retired military officer Ollanta Humala and in 2016 by the economist Pedro Pablo Kuczynski.
