New York (EFE).- The United States Army shot down a new unidentified flying object, this time while it was flying over Lake Huron, in the north of the country, according to Congressman Jack Bergman and government sources confirmed to CNN and ABC.
It is the third “object” neutralized in the last three days in North America, after the one shot down on Friday over Alaska and on Saturday in Canada.
Bergman, via Twitter, said he had been in contact with the Department of Defense about this operation in the Great Lakes area near the Canadian border, which became known after a temporary closure of airspace over Lake Michigan. .
Order the Biden
The Republican congressman, who represents the state of Michigan, thanked the “resolute action” of the American combat pilots, but stressed that the population “deserves many more responses” than have been received so far about these episodes.
Also via Twitter, Michigan Democratic Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin said shortly after that US Air Force and National Guard pilots had shot down an object they had been tracking over Lake Huron.
According to a source cited by CNN, the object was shot down by order of US President Joe Biden.
For now, no details are known about this object, although a legislature source told The Wall Street Journal that it was shaped like an octagon and that it was flying at an altitude of 20,000 feet (about 6,000 meters), so it represented a danger to the commercial aviation.
The US believes that the last two flying objects were balloons
There is also not much information about the last two that were shot down, while work is being done to recover their remains.
Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer says both are believed to be balloons, albeit smaller than the suspected Chinese spy balloon intercepted last week.
The senator, informed about these objects by the White House National Security Adviser, Jake Sullivan, stated that the devices were flying at an altitude of 12,000 meters, posing a “danger” to commercial aviation.
Schumer stressed that until a few months ago the United States did not know anything about these balloons, and assured that the Army and US intelligence are focused on collecting all the necessary information.
Diplomatic crisis between the US and China
The detection and shooting down of these flying objects occurs in the midst of the diplomatic crisis between Washington and Beijing after last week the United States shot down an alleged Chinese spy balloon that flew over a good part of its territory.
The Government of Joe Biden has accused China of having developed, with the involvement of the Armed Forces, a balloon “program” for espionage work and that they have already flown over more than 40 countries on 5 continents.
China defends that the balloon that the United States shot down was a meteorological device that “deviated from its original course” due to “force majeure.”
According to government sources cited by various media, as a result of the Chinese balloon, the United States has raised controls in its airspace and this may explain the repeated detections of aircraft flying over the country.
The US authorities, according to these sources, have contacted investigative agencies in various fields to determine if these objects are linked to their work.
