Arrecife (Lanzarote) (EFE).- The Minister for Equality, Irene Montero, who this Sunday has participated in an act of Podemos in Lanzarote, has warned that the purple formation will protect that consent “continues at the heart of the Penal Code” and also to the coalition government that has made possible the law of only yes is yes.
In his speech, Montero regretted that, in view of the congratulations that the Spanish Government has received from the EU and other international organizations for this organic law for the comprehensive guarantee of sexual freedom, known as the “only yes is yes” law, in this country its promoters suffer “an indecent offensive of the political, judicial and media right”, which seeks a return to the previous model.
A model, he said, with which the victims of the “still invisible and normalized sexual violence were asked if they resisted, and not if they consented.”
Irene Montero has stressed that what is happening with this law, “the main feminist conquest of the last twenty years”, also happened in 2004 after the approval of the Law on Comprehensive Protection Measures against Gender Violence, against which “Spanish courts raised 200 questions of unconstitutionality”, while the dismissals of these cases “increased by 158%”.
The Minister for Equality has claimed that her party is “the force that is transforming” Spain, aware that “where there is a need there must be a right” and contrary to “only the powerful deciding”.
Montero has stressed that for Podemos “doing politics is a daunting task”, since this implies “making possible what everyone tells you is impossible”, such as raising the minimum interprofessional wage and promoting the Minimum Vital Income, feminist laws, the cap on gas or intervention in the housing market, some initiatives “that are making it possible for thousands of families to live better” and that were rejected by those “who wanted to maintain the privileges of a few at the expense of the rights of the social majority ».
The minister stressed that in the Canary Islands her party has also favored the creation of a citizen income and the improvement of the difficult situation that issues related to dependency were going through, for which she thanked the regional counselor for Social Rights, Noemí Santana .
For this reason, he has estimated that progressive coalition governments, such as the national and the Canary Islands, which, as he has said, are the result of the mobilization of the popular sectors of this country and also of the efforts of Podemos, “which since 2016 said they were possible and that the numbers did give, they are the best that they can have» Spain and this archipelago.
Facing them, there are “many adversaries of the political, judicial and media rights who want to overthrow the central Executive and prevent Podemos from governing”, although the purple formation is clear that in this electoral year its objective is “to govern in more places and with more strength where it already does, “he asserted.
