In statements to Efe, Sánchez Llibre has assured that in the previous elections he no longer positioned himself in favor of any candidate to preside over the institution and that this will also be the case in these elections.
Sánchez Llibre has made it clear that, “out of responsibility and seriousness”, the employers’ association that he presides will not campaign for any candidate or for any candidacy in these elections.
“Once the (business) epigraphs of the Chamber choose their representatives, we will decide what we do, but Foment should not position itself from the outset,” said Sánchez Llibre.
And it is that, in the case of the elections to the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce, each voter does not vote directly for a candidate for the presidency, but rather votes for the representative of his business epigraph, that is, of his economic subsector, and then the full body of the corporation elects the president.
Regarding the members of the plenary elected at the proposal of the business organizations, Sánchez Llibre explained that Pimec has not sent him any formal proposal for an equal distribution of these committees.
In December, the president of Pimec, Antoni Cañete, told the press, in the traditional Christmas meeting with the media, that he had proposed to Foment to distribute equally the 6 seats that correspond to the employers in plenary session of the Chamber.
Meanwhile, the Government finalizes the electoral decree to regulate the next elections to the Catalan chambers of commerce, elections that are scheduled for June or September and that the Catalan executive wants them to consider electronic voting.
