The events occurred between 2017 and 2019, and the European spouses charged 5,000 euros in exchange for participating in various fictitious marriages on the Mediterranean island of Mallorca.
The defendants who received money for getting married are four men of Spanish and Italian nationality and one Italian woman, according to local press reports.
The prosecuted lawyer, registered in Madrid, was supposedly in charge of fixing the links and processing the documentation.
Once he had the marriage certificate, he also managed the legal residence of the Latin American spouses in the European Union (EU) and charged for these efforts.
The lawyer is accused of a crime against the rights of foreigners and another of falsifying a public document.
The Prosecutor’s Office also demands between one and a year and a half in prison for European citizens as necessary collaborators and the transgender people involved, in addition to declaring the nullity of marriages and residence cards.
